Unitec IT SolutionsWaterford’s People Theatre, the Theatre Royal, established 220 years ago, have recently completed their multi-million restoration to provide the South-East with an arts icon for the 21st century.

As part of the rebuilding work, the Theatre Royal required a company to provide advice and deployment of the leading Information Technology and Communication solutions to provide the core Sales, Marketing and Logistics communications for the refitted theatre.

After a very competitive tender process, Unitec’s combination of industry leading technologies, history of installing IT projects worldwide and account management, won the contract.

The Theatre Royal took the opportunity to install two wireless networks. The first, a public network for guests to access the internet using laptops and internet enabled smartphones, and a second, a secure internal network for mobile theatre workers in Lighting and Engineering departments to access information as they move throughout the theatre.

Unitec IT Solutions providing IT for Theatre RoyalTo handle increasing levels of telephone calls to the box office and technical staff, a new telecommunications system was installed. The chosen modular system, allows standard analogue incoming phone calls, internal call routing management and voicemail. The modular system will expand with the theatre to protect the financial investment, allowing additional services such as VoIP capabilities to be provided to route calls over the internet to make cost savings.

All IT Hardware was updated, with new central server, desktop PC’s and laptops, specified to provide at least three years of high-end processing speed computing, utilising Microsoft’s current leading technologies for email, file and print sharing and user productivity.

During the tendering process, a requirement for a modern, efficient seat ticketing system was identified. Unitec researched many options worldwide, and settled upon a system providing paper, SMS, e-ticketing and website booking management, along with marketing and customer management features.

To protect the investment, a multi-layered Unified Threat Management System was deployed to sure data, equipment and employees where protected from virus, hacking and unfiltered internet threats. The Theatre Royal have also contracted Unitec IT Solutions to provide ongoing proactive maintenance of the whole IT system to ensure maximum uptime and trouble free performance for both employees and visitors to the theatre.

The successful competition of the project has provided The Theatre Royal with a communication and technology network to be envied today, and expandable to grow with their feature needs. The partnership approach between customer and technology provider has ensured the work has been completed to full customer satisfaction, timescale and budget.

“Unitec has delivered a first class service in IT and phone system requirements to us since we joined up with them in the Spring of 2009.  The after sales service has been both friendly and reliable and we are very glad to have chosen Ian and his team.  We look forward to a continued partnership with Unitec going forward and into the future years.” Mary Boland, Manager Theatre Royal, Waterford.
